The trip

The Futaleufú River valley in Chile is one of the world’s gems. The valley, which is approximately 1,500 kilometers south of Santiago in northern Patagonia, is famous for the rafting and kayaking community for its world-class whitewater.

Between lush valleys and towering peaks appears Futaleufú main character: the river. Continuous and numerous rapids with different difficulty levels (going up to 5+), make the “Fu” an unmissable destination. It’s crystal clear water in contrast with huge mountains, offer the perfect scenario to enjoy the action.

This trip is a unique experience in the area. Our journey will take us from the impressive Terminator Camp built along the most famous rapid of the Fu to the unique Cave Camp. In addition to the rafting, we will connect with the locals and learn about their customs.

The multisport activities will enrich the trip, each one as a part of a masterful composition, full of emotion, beauty and adventure. Each night you will enjoy a delicious meal and relax at the camps hot tubs, while we share anecdotes of this unique part of Patagonia.

Itinerary

Day 1: Puerto Montt – Rafting Training – Terminator Camp

From Puerto Montt, we board a plane for a spectacular flight to the town of Chaitén. From there we will head to Futaleufú through an impressive road that goes from the ocean to the mountains and have our training day. A very exciting section of the river will allow us to train and prepare for the challenges the rest of the week will bring. After all the action, we head to our camp to relax and enjoy a good meal and the hot tub overlooking Terminator rapid.

Day 2: Rafting Inferno Canyon – Tyrolean – Zip line – Cave Camp

On our second day, we enter one of the most challenging portions of the river: Inferno Canyon, a striking canyon with impressive class 5 rapids. From there, we will continue to our next destination: Cave Camp. There we will cross the Futaleufú with a pulley system suspended over the most dramatic rapid of the river. Then, we will “zip” across the river through a pulley system flying through the air and sliding over the river. Finally, we will relax in the hot tub overlooking the Futaleufú and have a delicious dinner to recover our strength.

Day 3: Rock Climbing – Rappel – Cliff Jumping – Cave Camp

In the morning, we will go climbing until reaching the top of a rock formation where we will enjoy spectacular 360º views. Then we will rappel off a 300-foot granite wall (our climb has been carefully designed to be successfully completed by people of all ages, and it has different levels of difficulty you can choose from). Later, we can jump into the river from different altitudes up to 40 feet high and feel the adrenalin of a free fall. We will also have free time to explore and enjoy our camp many features, including the little blue lake, the sandy beach, the wooden hot tub, the stone hot tub, and much more!

Day 4: Rafting – Terminator Camp

We start early for a full day of water activities. In the morning we will raft an entertaining section of the river with class 4 and 4+ until we reach our lunch spot. From there we will continue rafting until meeting the famous Terminator rapid, an impressive 1 kilometer long rapid. After the adventure, we will return to our camp to relax and enjoy a well-deserved Patagonian Asado (lamb barbecue).
